Key Offseason Free Agents

May 19, 2009

The Dallas Mavericks have a few key free agents for there team. Let's take a look and breakdown the situation at hand for our team.

Ryan Hollins, Nick Fazekas, Gerald Green, Jason Kidd, James Singleton, & Brandon Bass are the Free Agent's as our team tries to build for the 2009 NBA Regular Season.

Keep or Don't Keep

Nick Fazekas: Honestly I didn't know he was still on the team but his salary and everything else really don't matter. This is a good $700k coming off our books, thank god. (Don't Keep)

Gerald Green: One of the most if not the most athletic player on the Dallas Mavericks, Green proved throughout the year he has the talent, the question still is does he have the IQ? (Don't Keep)

James Singleton: This guy here is a very versatile player who was placed at Center, Power Forward, & Small Forward throughout the year. If Dallas can keep him cheap then we should bring him back. (Keep)

Brandon Bass: Throughout the year Bass was supposed to be the breakout player everyone thought he could've been after his performance the year before. His numbers didn't change much but that could've been because Carlisle was learning his players and vice versa. Bass as we all know can be explosive, and has developed a mid range shot. His aggressiveness has been questioned a few times because he is not consistent, but his value might be inflated this offseason. If big offers are not on the table for Bass we might be able to get him back for one more year cheap. (Keep)

Ryan Hollins: I don't know too many people who have stood up to Shaq like this guy, but Hollins did it and boy was it fun. Ryan Hollins has the height and just needs the weight to be more of an impact. The problem with having Hollins gain that weight could take away from his athleticism, and his shot blocking abilities. Another thing Ryan needs to develop is a post game on the offensive end. If he can do these things in the offseason he could be a dangerous young big man for the future. (Keep)

Jason Kidd: Finally we speak on the man everyone has been wondering about since we got him. Kidd is not 25 years old anymore but he really doesn't have to be. The Mavs could infuse talent through the draft or through some expiring contracts. Barea showed he was capable to back up Kidd, and Terry also serves as a PG at times if the Mavs need it. With Kidd on his last legs, I think his impact leaving the Mavericks could be pretty severe because of the leadership, and defensive mindset he brings into this team. I know at times it was not apparent, but who else did Barea, Hollins, and the other guys talk too. I'm pretty sure it was Jason..... (Keep)
